ANGRY AT YOUR APATHY / TÁ FEARG ORM LE DO NEAMHSHUIM
Angry at Your Apathy uses Irish history as a lens to examine how systems of power shape culture, memory and identity. Referencing the stone walls and rocky landscapes of Ireland, the ceramic works draw on the legacy of famine walls, built during An Gorta Mór (the Great Famine) as a condition of relief, as enduring records of labour, survival and control.
Rather than presenting Ireland as an isolated history, the exhibition considers how systems of displacement, cultural erasure and narrative control continue to operate across the world. Fragments of text embedded within the works reflect on absence, denial and collective responsibility.
The title is directed towards the viewer. We are surrounded by images of war, displacement and human suffering. Fatigue is understandable. Apathy is not.
